A realistic, detailed description of the inner workings of marketing art. I especially appreciated the recent update on trends and changes. The author speaks with experience and authority, giving examples that shaped his conclusions, and expressing non-conclusions when he perceives future directions as murky. I highly recommend this book.

Refreshing to read a book about the actual dealings and the economy of artworks without pseudo-elevating art theory that usually goes with it.

This is not a book as much as it is an incomplete academic research paper. First of all the "book" has only 3 chapters, Video Art, Experimental Art and Investment Funds. More than 1/3 of the entire text(pages 215-361) is simply reference material(i.e. appendix, citations, bibliography etc.)This book reads like an academic paper and is not very useful or interesting. For a much better read on the insights into Contemporary Art Market I would suggest the The $12 Million Stuffed Shark: The Curious Economics of Contemporary Art by Don Thomson.The $12 Million Stuffed Shark: The Curious Economics of Contemporary Art

Art of the Deal is an inspiring excavation of the many building blocks of the art market, weaving a succinct walkthrough of art historical insights with clever perspectives on contemporary practice. I finished the book astonished that something similar had not been written long ago--after all we live in a world where understanding market behaviour is no longer desirable but a must! Although the book cannot be said to be easy reading to the layman reader, testing our understanding of both cutting-edge art historical theories and complex financial factors, it is nonetheless a highly enjoyable read. I especially found myself amused when reading the chapter on experiential art: Indeed, how does one price an art work consisting of the artist cooking a meal and leaving the messy kitchen behind!? Having read Noah Horowitz' book, I can now say that I better understand the Art of the Deal!

An accessible, informative and highly enjoyable read. It's a great look at the conteporary art market with enough story-telling and background that I felt like an insider by the end, despite being just a casual art observor. I received as a gift and it's been a hit for everyone I've done the same for.

As someone from outside the industry I found Horowitz's book a very insightful and well researched piece. The discussion of the evolution of video and experimental art and how that related to the changing dynamic of the art buyer's market was excellent. A must-read for industry insiders.

Noah Horowitz is a brilliant scholar of the art market. His incisive commentary and keen understanding of what appears to be a largely unregulated market with a labyrinth-like structure makes this an excellent read! I can't recommend it enough.

There are a number of good books about quantum computing around. Unfortunately, because it has a number of errors, and because the explanations are not always clear, this is not one of them. I know somebody who, after reading this book's section on superdense coding and teleportation, ended up more confused than he started out. This is because not only is teleportation presented using a forest of bewildering 8x8 matrices (correct, but only useful if this is explained well), but the words accompanying these matrices are actually wrong. For example in superdense coding Alice is said to send Bob a quantum bit in a state described by a 4-dimensional vector. This vector actually describes the joint state of Alice and Bob's quantum bits, and there is no way to describe Alice's quantum bit alone. This is a very important distinction to make if you want to comprehend the material, and this book does not make it here. We also learn that in teleportation, "The transfer of quantum information appears to happen instantly, though Bob needs to first receive classical information regarding the result of Alice's measurement before validating his own result." I'm not even sure what this sentence is trying to say. What does validating mean in this context?The definition of uniformity is wrong. The authors do not appear to understand the concepts behind this definition, or if they do, they are incapable of communicating these concepts to the reader.In the factoring algorithm, the second condition in the definition of order of r modulo N is incorrect. First it has a 1 in the right-hand-side, and the authors meant to put a 0 there. Second, this condition does not belong in the correct mathematical definition of order. And finally, they don't need this condition since they don't seem to use it anywhere. To make matters worse, Figure 5.10, which illustrates the factorization process for 21, shows 1 times 11 being equal to 16.To be fair to the authors, these errors have now been corrected in the errata, and I haven't looked at earlier chapters of the book, which may be better than the chapters I did look at.

In planning a course on quantum computing, an instructor would want to cover the significant highpoints in the subject: Shor's factoring algorithm, Grover's search algorithm, Deutsch's problem, the hidden subgroup problem. I for one found that this book does precisely that. Students will want an accessible and attractive presentation. This book is beautifully presented, nicely organized, and pedagogically presented with motivation, clear explanations, and well chosen exercises.While the subject has a variety of facets, physics, math, computer science, this book emphasizes the last two. In a highly interdisciplinary subject, each author (or team of authors) must make selections. In selecting what to cover, the authors had the classroom and students in mind. More precisely the subject here is presented in the form of quantum gates, channels, and circuits. Yet, quantum physics and the foundations are not neglected. The graphic presentation (figures and diagrams) is done in a way to aid learning, and I expect that this book will be the preferred text in courses in the subject for some time to come. Advanced undergraduates will be able to follow the logical progression of subjects. Several special features in the book help: Exercises, an extensive and instructive glossary, historical insight, motivation, appendices (including key math topics, e.g., modular arithmetic and Hadamard transforms which perhaps may not be widely known), and circuit diagrams illustrating at the same time matrix factorization and the complexity of circuits.Contents: 1. History and background, 2. Rudiments of quantum physics as it is needed, 3. Qubits and computer science rewritten in the form of quantum gates, 4. The key quantum algorithms (Shor, Grover, Simon) and the highpoints in the subject, 5. Entanglement, decoherence, error-correcting codes, Bell, dense coding, EPR, reversible computation, thermodynamic entropy, and more.Highly recommended!

This is the best Korean cook book written in English I've ever seen so far. I love beautiful picture in it and explanations are easy to inderstand. This Irish chef-Korean designer couple made great collaboration on this book made for revealing best kept secret in Asia.

Korean food translated (in terms of techniques) for the western world, and yet maintaining the flavors of the original. Thanks to the authors for this great effort.

Modern and easy

I wanted ONE Korean cookbook. Now in its US release, no translation from metric needed. Interesting and relatively easy recipes, with the ring of authenticity. The instructions are straightforward and the photos both beautiful and helpful. This is the one! Edited to add: I have now tried a number of recipes from the book, and can say that it is not only beautiful, but the recipes work well and get raves from friends. Yes, there are some ingredients to buy, but I would never trust an Asian cookbook that didn't have true Asian ingredients. Great buy, a year later.

Bought through Amazon UK 12/15. Jordan Bourke is an Irish chef who is married to a Korean designer. Of all of the Korean books I've bought over the years this holds the best balance between realistic recipes and authenticity. None of the recipes were too daunting, but all looked familiar to me as someone who has cook Korean before. I look forward to finding some new favorites in here. Well organized. Beautiful photos. Easy to read recipes. Must be prepared for British measures and terms.

Clover Robin is a surface pattern designer, collage artist, and illustrator. I was new to collage and found this book to be the perfect way to begin. The book is beautifully laid out and easy to use. Plus the artist generously added lots of pages which can be removed when creating collages as well as clear simple instruction on how to prepare papers, ideas on where to find paper to use and cutting, pasting, tool tips. Lots of fun.

I used to do magazine collage and so bought this thinking I might try tissue paper collage, just to experiment with and see how it goes. I was very surprised to see Elmer's glue stick recommended by a serious collage artist for fellow artists. I prefer Nita Leland's (collage artist) reasons on why to avoid it. However, I think if one like myself is just playing around experimenting with tissue collage then Elmer's glue might definitely be the item to choose because it is so cheap. Then if one decides to make something worth keeping, framing or selling, then see Nita Leland's readings on matte glue, brayers, and the like. One would need to do some research on the topic before using glue sticks as an adhesive in any serious art.I am glad I got this book. It did give me some ideas with which to experiment. This book is also recommended for babysitters, nannies, home schoolers, bored persons interested in collage, and art teachers who want some paper, glue, scissors to make collage with their children so as to give them creative outlets, art therapy, etc. So overall, yes, this is a good book.

One of the absolutely loveliest books I have ever owned. Absolutely loaded with charming pictures, ideas and inspiration.After perusing through it and I get to the end, I start again at the beginning and feel like I'm going through it again for the first time. I'm ordering another one for a good friend who does collages and I'm so excited to give it to her, knowing that she will love it!

Love this book. It was just what I needed to take my collaging/card making to the next level. And the wonderful papers that you can detach and use for projects was a lovely added bonus. Thanks so much for sharing so many of your techniques and projects!

This book is a beautiful addition to an art library. It is packed full of gorgeous art and information on how to create cut paper pictures. This is one I will look at again and again.

I use to rely on hoping my loved ones would visit me in my dreams. I’d wait and wait and feel disappointed when I didn’t see signs from them. After reading Where Did You Go, and using Christina Rasmussen’s methods, I was able to connect immediately with those I have lost. Now I know I have the power to see what is hidden. We all can! Highly recommend this book.

Christina’s book “Second Firsts” was a recommendation from someone in my Facebook Widows group. I enjoyed it but felt I wasn’t really “there yet” when it came to dating etc. I could not wait to get my hands on this book! I’ve been a student of mysticism for many years studying anything I can get my hands on in that regard. As a Hospice nurse I meet so many people that can use this wisdom as well! I bought four more copies for Christmas gifts. Thank you for the validation that “love never dies” Christina! 💜🙏🏻☮️

I have read Second Firsts and now WDYG and also participated in some of Christina’s online groups. She and her books have been life changing for me. They are some of the only books I have been able to finish since my loss four years ago because they touch me that deeply. And Christina is a genuine and amazing human being that I am honored to know and call a friend. I can’t recommend this book enough if you are looking to go deeper, reestablish your spirituality, connection with self and others, including lost loves. It goes deep and offers guided meditations to help strengthen our bonds with ourselves and our world, our beliefs, and is exactly what I needed at this stage in my grief.

Just started reading the book. I recently lost my wife and so far it has given a different prospective.

I have been paralyzed by grief since losing my Dad in December 2014. Christina's book has shown me that I can still connect with my Dad in my journey's and that those we love are never truly gone.

Once again, Christina provides meaningful tools for people searching for meaning and healing with loss. A follow up to her Second Firsts book, Where Did You Go is written directly from the heart yet backed by science. Her passion for this subject and for her readers is clear with each page. Regardless of your belief, I recommend this book as it may help you find your own path.

Upon reading the introduction I knew this book would bring me to new visions, new insights, a deeper belief. We all have our own vision of what happens after we leave this physical world. We all have our own beliefs, whether that is religious or spiritual. Christina helps you to see and feel the energy that surrounds us each and every day. BILL EDDY is the co-founder and president of the High Conflict Institute, a company devoted to helping individuals and organizations deal with high-conflict people. Eddy is a Certified Family Law Specialist and Senior Family Mediator at the National Conflict Resolution Center in San Diego. He is also a Licensed Clinical Social worker with twelve years' experience providing therapy to children, adults, couples and families in psychiatric hospitals and outpatient clinics. The article seemed to capture many characteristics of my quasi-friend and his behavior, so I bought the book.The rationale is simple and elegant. The author is both a mediation attorney, and psychotherapist. About half his mediation cases involve a disputant with one of 5 major types of personality disorders identified by mental health professionals in the DSM-5 [sociopath, psychopath, narcissist etc]. According to the NIH these individuals constitute about 10% of the US population.Of these types, those who cause people distress through their words or actions, tend to take advantage of people in characteristic ways. The author calls them High-Conflict Personalities (HCPs: though not all people with these disorders cause conflict).When one finds oneself sucked into a dysfunctional and painful situation with an HCP, certainly one approach is to hire a counselor. In my view, it is best to be equipped with some skills, even if simple ones, to detect, and handle, the situation before seeking professional help. The HCP concept meets that need. It is not intended as a diagnostic system. It is more like a street map telling you which parts of a foreign city to avoid if you value your health.The book provides early warning clues. Is the person doing something that 90% of the people would not do? [In my case, yes he was]. And, is the person saying something that 90% of the people would not say? [In my case, yes]. Finally, how does one feel after engaging the person? [I felt disconcerted, betrayed, abused, and victimized]. I tend to be too trusting and wanting to help. Thus, I was an easy target.Of course, given human psychological diversity, the details of how HCPs disrupt relationships will vary. But, in the depth of the book I found many characteristics that fit the person causing me problems. He is charming and fast-talking, with big plans that lacked concrete or logical details (that he wouldn’t discuss). He lies or misrepresents the facts, doesn’t take responsibility for his circumstances, never apologizes, and does not attempt to resolve misunderstandings. I’ve always known that he had a volatile reaction to being questioned, and that he always escalated a disagreement rather than trying to find a common solution. Thus, I have always walked on eggshells around this guy. All these traits are common among certain HCPs.For me, the official psychological designation didn’t really matter. What mattered was being able to deal with the person. Initially, I reacted with anger and opposition, as anyone would, but that’s not Eddy’s recommendation. Better to set clear boundaries, or use an excuse for a graceful way of backing out. I am currently working on that and, as of now, communication between this person and me has ceased. That saddens me because the guy can be fascinating [as long as I don’t ask questions].In sum, I found Eddy’s book to be very helpful. Given that HCPs constitute a significant fraction of the people we meet, its recommendations are good to keep in mind before untoward situations develop. What layperson can recall the details of the DSM-5 regarding the diversity of people who effortlessly engage conflict? Eddy’s book is a good first-hand rubric for avoiding trouble. I recommend it.

The title is a little HISTRIONIC but this is an incredibly helpful book for identifying and managing five different kinds of high-conflict people. The approaches feel a bit corporate, with trademarked acronyms for each strategy, but I was sold after I found myself reading through the chapters, recognizing the people, and thinking, "Dang, I wish I'd said that. Dang, I wish I'd done that." If you're highly empathetic and/or you have codependent tendencies and find it really hard not to fall right into cheerleader/champion/sympathizer mode with someone new who tugs at your heartstrings, this book offers great stop-drop-and-roll advice that you can follow repeatedly until it becomes instinctual. Loaded with sentences you can actually say in a wide variety of contexts. Love Eddy's statistical approach to adjusting the reader's expectations. No, you can't get along with everybody. You need to expect problems with about one in ten people. Here's how to manage it.

Terrific book, wish I had read it 10 years ago. I just left a job where a person with both narcissistic personality disorder and border line personality disorder spends her days tearing down excellent people to boost her mediocre self. Six months of that, daily, including on weekends as she never stops emailing, and gets offended when her emails are not answered in 5 minutes! I found this book and finally understood what she was doing, and that she could not be helped at work, the best thing was to leave, so I did. Thankfully, the job market is hot and I got another job within days, but how sad that one very ill individual is destroying the workplace for so many people. I have recommended this book to all of those who remain there, and have already received two emails from people thanking me for giving them a game plan on how to deal with this sick individual. Thank you Bill Eddy for your insights, they are valuable to all in the workplace.

Bill Eddy's latest book is invaluable for anyone working with people - or living with them! Self-awareness is the key to handling high-conflict people, because although THEY probably won't change, YOU can learn to control how you react to them, to stop them from ruining your life. Bill's easy to understand methods have worked for me, and I highly recommend this book.It is clearly written without jargon, giving helpful examples of what to say or not to say when confronted by High Conflict People.

A book of value, have your children, friends and co-workers read this book!.......not knowing the information presented in this book will raise the chances of tremendous heart break and financial destruction if any loved one's life has been affected by the types of people and situations outline. I will be buying another copy for my 20 year old son in hopes to help enlighten him as he takes off on his own life path.

This is an informative book, on how to protect yourself from being harmed by destructively behaved people. My question is, how do you protect yourself from further harm, if you have already been harmed? A book on this would be greatly appreciated

There are different methods of trading/investing in the stock market. There's value investing (like Warren Buffet), there's day trading, swing trading, and then there's growth investing. This book is about growth investing. That is, investing in companies that show exceptional earnings and sales growth (which are the things that affect a stock's price during a bull market cycle). It's not better or worse than the others. But thanks to Bill O'Neill and his Investor's Business Daily service, it is easier to learn.This is because IBD (the newspaper/service accompanying this strategy) does half the work for you. The book will tell you to look for companies with a certain amount of earnings growth by quarter, for example, and that sounds like a lot of work--and normally, it would be. But if you pay the $10 per month, or whatever it is, for the paper, all of that stuff is done for you. The data is available for any stock in the market, and you're given a list of the top 50 stocks that meet the criteria listed in the book.But as I said, that's only half the work. Knowing which stocks to buy is easy (thanks to this strategy), but knowing when to buy them and when to sell them is the hard part. The book goes into detail on that. It involves looking for certain patterns in the price charts (also available through their service), and then buying if the price goes above a certain level. Then there are also rules on when to sell.It's a rules-based system, which is good because it gives you a set of criteria by which to buy and sell stocks, but there is room for flexibility (depending on your abilities as a technical analyst and/or your knowledge of a particular company) which is going to make or break you as a stock trader.I should finish this review, though, by saying that most traders lose money in stocks. Unless you're so obsessed with stocks that you're willing to put in thousands of hours (just like any highly competitive skill) before you are successful, I'd recommend just buying a mutual fund instead. It's a lot less hassle, and unless you become an elite trader, your returns will likely be comparable over a long enough period of time.If there is any negative that I have to say about this book, it's that it says nothing about what I believe is the most difficult part about trading. The psychological aspect. I would reference Mark Douglas for that.

This is the first review I have ever written on Amazon; this book is that incredible. The book lays out exactly what most successful stocks have done to be successful and when to buy that stock before it shoots up. The basic premise of the book is to buy companies that have demonstrated certain chart patterns (the patterns explained in the book) and have solid fundamentals.So far, in only 3 months of investing with his strategy, I have made 15% returns on my investments. Before I read this, I had to wait at least a year or two before making that kind of money. However, he does solicit his website throughout the book. At first, I was skeptical of someone trying to sell financial advice (everyone seems to solicit you for market advice nowadays), but I decided to give his website a try. Ends up, they give you a month trial for free, and it costs $30 per month after the trial. With the amount of money I have made from this book, the $30 a month is a drop in the bucket of my profits.To provide concrete examples, his website told me to look for Winnebago (WGO) in August-September 2017, YY Inc.'s (YY) incredible 25% shoot up after their amazing quarter in November 2017, and Square's (SQ) ungodly skyrocket in November 2017. Those are but some of the success stories I would never have found had I simply read he book and tried to do the analysis that the website provides for you. I strongly recommend reading the book and paying the monthly membership for the website. I have not regretted it at all.

This book changed my life financially. I took the time to study this as if it were college coursework - taking notes, making summaries, and referencing it back over and over again until I was confident that I understood the concepts. I went from having NO understanding about the stock market to being able to make intelligent decisions around the market. I've made a good chunk of $ back on my investments and William O'Neil offers a safe yet effective way to invest while using your financial agility as a small capital investor to your advantage.
