I really want to like this book, but will be looking for a more authoritative text. Despite the unprofessional looking cover, the book promises to assist the reader in mastering healthcare technology and provide an overview of the field. The first issue is the inconsistency in which the text explains concepts: either too general/watered down or too technical with no happy medium. The second issue is multiple editing errors that seem to become increasingly prevalent starting around chapter 4. The most blatant example of the editing errors are in Chapter 8 where three subsequent review answers and rationales are WRONG (8, 9 and 10). The same three questions are answered correctly in the Final Exam at the end of the book. Incidentally, the Final Exam is simply a compilation of the exact same questions found in the Final Check-Ups at the end of each chapter. A collection of unique questions and rationales should've been included at the end of the book instead of regurgitating the same questions as a means to increase the page count of the book.

This book is a fantastic resource with almost everything you want or need to know about the areas covered. My only criticism would be that the maps could stand more detail, and be smaller scale. Regardless, it clearly identifies the access locations for rivers, all the major rapids, and how to go through or get around them. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in paddling in the western Carolina's.

this book is alittle out dated from 1996. I'm not sure who this book was written for, it's written to teach airbrush painting it's more for those who have been at it for a couple of years.

This was a very descriptive book. It had good techniques and beautiful illustrations. I would recomend it to anyone with any degree of experience

I use this with my high school students. I teach airbrush I and II and this book is a great resource for my students to find and practice techniques. Thank you and I look forward to doing business with you again.

This book is a solid overview of the Buteyko breathing method and some of the theory and research behind it. However, when I performed the exercises exactly as described in the book it actually aggravated my asthma symptoms. I knew there was something to the method because when I followed the advice in the book to tape my mouth shut while sleeping I experienced a dramatic improvement in my nocturnal symptoms. I ended up seeking out a practitioner who instructed me in a very different way of performing the exercises and my symptoms really improved. Bottom line: book has some good info but seek out a practitioner for doing the exercises. The author also contradicts himself in places and at times does a poor job of reviewing and commenting on the scientific literature. I ended up reading Breathing Slower and Less: The Greatest Health Discovery Ever by Artour Rakhimov and think it handles the topic in a much more rigorously scientific way.

I read this book even though I don't have asthma. It teaches you breathing techniques which are helping your brain to reset the level of CO2 it tries to maintain, and to breathe through your nose rather than your mouth. I have never had asthma but read this book out of general interest, and have been applying the breathing techniques. One measurement it uses is the control pause, which is lower for people who breathe too much, and higher for people who breathe less. Especially people with asthma can benefit from raising their control pause, but as it turns out the rest of us can most likely also benefit from doing this. My control pause before starting the exercises was 30. After a week or so of doing the exercises it was up to 45. What I've noticed: For the last year I have been able to do 6 chinups max. Today I did 8. When I run I feel an ease that I haven't felt in many years. When I am singing I can hold notes longer, and have a steadier voice. Nothing earth shattering, but my body definitely likes it. Taking off one star as the book is a bit repetitive.

I can't say enough good about this. The Buteyko method has truly changed my life! My medical care for my asthma was costing a quarter of my yearly income and it wasn't working. I was having horrible reactions from the medications and my doctor told me it would only get worse. I am in my thirties, and getting up out of a chair and walking across the room was enough to tire me out. The attacks were terrifying. I had really lost hope of accomplishing most of the things I wanted to in life. I stumbled across this book on Amazon about two and a half years ago and figured what do I have to lose? The results have been nothing short of a miracle!This takes some work. You have to really want it, but the results are measurable and there is nothing further to buy. (There are a few recommended vitamin supplements you can choose to take on your own if you wish. Helpful but not essential for it to work). Within about a month of starting this my wheezing slowed down, my energy levels picked up, and there was a hint of color in my face for the first time in years. As I progressed I was able to get off all of my medications completely. It has been over two years since I have touched my rescue inhaler. I am very athletic now and living my life to the fullest. I couldn't be happier!The money I am saving on medical expenses is huge! But that pales in comparison to having my life back. The book will show you how to measure your progress on a "CP" scale. With 40 or higher being ideal, I started at a 3. As I watched that number go up, I watched my body transform through the stages back to healthy. Patrick McKeown does a good job of explaining and they offer free support. I didn't need it, so I never contacted them and can't review that part. They do seem genuinely more concerned with helping people than cashing in. I later bought the DVD because I am a visual learner and was curious, but I bought this book first and it contains everything you need to know. There are also free YouTube videos.I would recommend anyone with asthma take a serious look at this! It works!!!

This book was very helpful. I wish I'd had this book from the beginning of my respiratory problems! The breathing techniques and information about natural methods was very informative and helpful. This book is easy to read and understand and the exercises and advise is easy to implement in a daily routine. It helped me understand and decode how our respiratory system is supposed to work and stay in tune with my body and how I am doing. I really appreciated all the natural supplements recommended in the book as well. Unfortunately I found it harder to get my MD to support these methods but my specialists seem more supportive of them. This is a good supplement to a total reliance on medication to treat everything. Excellent book.

this is a great introductory book if you are interested in learning more about Buteyko. It explains a lot of the theory and some of the practice of Buteyko. I am not convinced that you will cure your asthma just from practicing what you read in this book. I really think that a Buteyko instructor/practitioner is your best bet on really making sure that you understand the concepts and can practice them correctly. It really WILL make a difference in your health to practice Buteyko. Research it online. I just had one of my best years in many simply by being more diligent about nose breathing and some simple breath-holding exercicses. Made a BIG difference in my response to allergens. There are many tools out there to help you with certain afflictions. ooops. I'm starting to review Buteyko and not the book. The book is easy to read and a great place to start.

Lorenzo Cohen, PhD, is the Richard E. Haynes Distinguished Professor in Clini­cal Cancer Prevention and director of the Integra­tive Medicine Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He is on the board of the Academic Consortium for Integra­tive Medicine and Health and is a founding mem­ber and past president of the Society for Integrative Oncology. Dr. Cohen has published more than 125 scientific articles in top medical journals and has edited two books on integrative medicine for cancer care. Alison Jefferies, MEd, has worked extensively as an educator. She is a former president of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Fac­ulty and Family Organization and works closely with Lorenzo Cohen to foster health and wellness in indi­viduals and their communities.   Cohen and Jefferies live in Houston with their three children.

Great revised Catechism of the Catholic Church. Should be on the shelf of every Catholic!!!

Essential work if you want to understand what the Catholic church actually teaches. This book contains the necessary (imho) information for anyone who wants/needs to learn what Catholicism is all actually about. This book is divided into 4 (four) parts: profession of faith (creed), sacraments (7), life in faith, and prayer. Starting with a total explanation of the profession of faith (creed) and ends with the Lord's Prayer. Before reading this I had so many misconceptions about the Catholic church. While reading this the misconceptions disappear while the truth and beauty of the Catholic church appear.

Every Catholic who is a practicing Catholic should have one of these. And if youare not a practicing Catholic you might want to get this and ponder the book andsee if it can maybe change your life. We are talking about your soul and yourfamily's souls.....is there anything more important than that?Good luck and God Bless

The OED defines “catechism” as “An elementary treatise for instruction in the principles of the Christian religion, in the form of question and answer; such a book accepted and issued by a church as an authoritative exposition of its teaching….” This is a useful definition for understanding what kind of information can be found in the catechism.The Catechism of the Catholic Church was approved by Pope John Paul II in 1992. Obviously, the information contained in it was not new—it is based on the Bible, documents from church councils, encyclicals, previous versions of the catechism, and other Church documents that predate it by hundreds of years.The Catechism is meant to be used as a reference work. It’s organized clearly with an extensive table of contents and a glossary. I wouldn’t recommend trying to read it from cover to cover, though you certainly can if you’re of such a mind to do so.The Catechism is easy to find. It’s available for free on the Vatican website, though since I hate reading on the computer, I don’t find it more beneficial for anything save the search function. Printed copies are easily available used, new, paperback, hardcover, trade paperback, mass market paperback, e-reader, and any form you could want. As long as it says “Catechism of the Catholic Church,” it’s the right book. Be aware that theUnited States Catholic Catechism for Adults is a study supplement and does not contain the full text of the Catechism.

The Catechism is a remarkable, wonderful book. That said, if you are reading the Kindle edition cover to cover or want to look up any general chapter or topic in the table of contents, it works. However, the Catechism was specifically made to study. Each paragraph is numbered and this organization is used as a tool for finding specific teachings within larger topics very quickly. There is no way to do this in this edition--it is worthless for using to find specific citations referenced in other books. I hoped to use it as such to always have with me in a very manageable, lightweight, non-bulky format. It completely failed.

This is an excellent ten dollar investment for any Catholic, but especially for me as a theology major! The best single source on Catholic doctrine right on my Kindle. Now I don't have to lug around the large, hardcover first edition my dad bought me in high school. Not a good idea when you're dealing with Steubenville hills :) Also one of the best formated ebooks I've seen so far in my couple months as a kindle user. The cross referencing is linked (and there is a ton of cross referencing in there!) Whoever put this together for kindle really put the work into it and, for this book at least, I'm not complaining that it costs more than a paperback copy. Be careful though because the other version of the catechism on the kindle store, with the skinny white cover, put out by the "US Catholic Church" (last I checked the official name for that is the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, so that doesn't seem legit to me...), is formatted horribly and I am very glad I sampled both and compared before purchasing!

I ordered two of these - one for my husband and one for me. We were both terribly disappointed when the glue holding the binding in place broke open the very first time we opened the book. I'm going to try ordering a different paperback version. Perhaps that will have a more satisfactory binding and we'll be able to use the Catechism for many years. This is why I gave this product a two star review.

A must read for the Catholic and the non Catholic. Reading the book will help the Catholic explain the faith and help the cradle Catholic understand it like never before. For non Catholics it will answer all questions about what Catholics believe and why they do the things they do. I have read it through twice and have significantly improved my understanding of the Catholic faith. It is not the Bible but it is certainly Bible based and referenced with God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit at the very center of it all.

This book is an invaluable resource for individuals who thirst learning or reinforcing the fundamentals of their faith. It reveals the answers to the questions that lead Christians and Catholics to fall astray or abandon their faith for other religious or spiritual beliefs. These questions include but are not limited to the importance of Mary in God's plan of salvation, the significance of the Lord's prayer, and the meaning of the sacraments. While the book is fairly lengthy, there is no shortcuts for the one who wants to live his faith and life according to God's will.

When one is facing a new diagnosis of diabetes it can be terrifying. The simple joy found in eating can loom in front of you like a dreaded chore instead of a time of delicious enjoyment. Worry can consume you all day about carbohydrates you've eaten- too much or not enough. Blood glucose levels out of control don't help get your A1C in the range it should be. We understand. We went through this after my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. Of Cuban Italian descent, he loved his pasta, breads and sweet desserts. Suddenly these treasured foods became the enemies. We had to completely overhaul our cooking and meal design. It was an overwhelming and trying time until a dietitian recommended this book. The worry, the fears and the confusion gradually faded into the background as we taught ourselves a new and improved way to cook and eat. It's been over five years since his diagnosis and this book is still a treasured reference to make healthy meals. I recommend it to anyone with diabetes and/or heart disease.

This set of recipes are basically good. For me the need to combine low sodium and low carb will require adapting many of the recipes. However, most are adaptable. Most of the adapting comes with the sodium side. By using appropriate substitute ingredients the higher sodium levels can be brought down. Published in 2014 I was surprised that the "heart healthy" aspect of the recipes were not more considerate of the 1500 mg per day limit recommended for persons with heart conditions. With an average of 450 mg. per meal (leaving 150 for snacks) some of the single meal items would quickly push a meal over the 450 mg limit. With diabetics needing an evening snack, the 150 mg. limit would also not leave much room for some of those food items. Overall the book provides valuable food preparation possibilities and is certainly worth the money. I borrowed a copy from our public library and reviewed and tested some of the recipes, then decided it was a good buy.

my younger sister suffered a heart attack. She is also diabetic. I sent this book to her when she got home from the hospital. She has been trying some of the recipes and is enjoying a more healthy diet.

Have found that recipes by the Heart Association are creative & delicious. This collaboration with the Diabetes Association proves to offer the same. It can be a challenge to prepare creative and tasty meals ( preferring a minimum of red meat) now that I am also pre-diabetic but this cookbook certainly helps. With adherence to diet, I hope to reverse pre-diabetes and nip it in the bud.

I have made about a dozen recipes in this cookbook and so far, so good. Not the most innovative cookbook I have ever had, but the recipes are fairly simple and quick to make.

Use this daily since my husband was diagnosed with heart failure. He has to watch his sodium closely and these recipes are all low sodium but made flavorful with herbs an spices that are sodium free.

Lots of seminal pieces. My only real complaint is that the font is just so small that it makes reading difficult. I suppose without making it into two tomes, there is no other way to get around the small font. Thankfully, the pages are split into two columns so I didn't get lost between lines. Cahoone has added some helpful commentary.

Even if one is only marginally interested in postmodernism, this book is nonetheless valuable. It reprints substantial excerpts from writings that put forth numerous important ideas, from Descartes to "The Cartesian Masculinization of Thought." It should not be mistaken for an introduction to modern philosophy, however, because it is strictly Continental and (obviously) postmodern. Still highly recommended.
