Both interesting and disturbing. Is the book more fact than fiction or more fiction than fact? Regardless the Words of Isaiah and the words of America's leaders, combined with some of our history seem more than coincidence and very disturbing.

My sister recommended this book to me, as we talked about the natural disasters if Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. I actually started reading it on September 11th, which made the events described in this book even more intense. I couldn't put it down, and just finished it the next morning. I hope to get more people to read it and take to heart the message here - that America must return to God. It is something I have been praying for for years, and especially in these last months. Our country has turned so far from God, that we are at each other's throats over politics and political correctness. We have lost sight of the God-given rights and ideals our country was founded upon. I pray that America returns to our Christian values before it is too late.

My son first introduced "The Harbinger" to me on you tube. This book follows that documentary very well with enough more in-depth insertions that I felt it worthwhile to read the book along with watching the program. I am reminded of the quote..."For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't believe, no explanation is possible." This is a fact-filled book. It is not fiction and not embellished. No need to give the stories away. No matter what you believe, about anything, give this book a try. Then pass it on.

When I saw that it was almost five star rated, I couldn't wait to read this novel, however, two chapters in I was sorry I started reading. I have never read such a repetitive book. Things were explained over and over and over again, just changing the wording. I read about half of the book and gave up. It was tedious to say the least to have things repeated so often. The subject matter was interesting, however the author interpreted events to fit his scenario. He definitely took poetic license with most of it. I can't understand how so many were so intrigued by this.

This could be an awesome book, but it becomes extremely frustrating very quickly. It is a work of fiction eerily portraying parallels between 9/11 and God's judgment and destruction on the Northern Kingdom of Israel by the Assyrians, A reporter is sent an ancient clay seal and meets a man who calls himself a prophet who says there are nine more seals, and each contains a prophetic message concerning America's future. The information is fascinating, but is wrapped in far too much wording.to be enjoyable. The reporter is told that he must discover the clues behind each seal and figure out the warnings that the seals represent. The "clues" the "prophet" gives to help the reporter are responses so obtuse that they would make a Zen Master proud, a combination of Zen and verbal circular logic. It doesn't take long before you want to reach into the book and choke straight answers out of the "prophet". I've tried reading it twice and both times didn't make it halfway through before becoming to irritated and frustrated to read any further. Maybe you'll have more patience than I.Don't get me wrong, it could be a 5-star book if the author didn't play so many mind-games with riddles and would cut the long, wordy explanations of the seals when the "prophet" explains them and their meanings. My opinion, though........

A dear friend was so excited about this book. She heard her son, a minister preach on it. Her reaction just surrounded me with hope that god loves us and wants only our faith and love following the path to his heart. This was so uplifting and explains so much regarding the end times. This book tells us what we need to be and do pass the message,. I love the way the writer put it in a narrative, easy to read and understand,we are one heartbeat away from judgement.

A fascinating read. I saw the Rabbi on Glenn Beck and the story was so compelling I had to get the book. The structure of the delivery is just a bit clunky but, the story overwhelms any shortcomings in the presentation. A great comparison of ancient to modern times. I've not moved on the The Mystery of the Shemitah. If you have any interest in biblical history and what's in store for us in the future, this is a MUST read.

Very insightful. Once I started down the path with Nouriel, I couldn't wait to see what would come next. I became immersed in the history unfolding and of the future of our nation. Drove home the idea I already had that America's number one problem was removing God from our lives. Extremely well written and gave me a lot to think about.

This is a great awaking to our nation and all the problems we are creating just like ancient iSREAL and it is a great book to read and start spreading this source to bring back our nation to a moral one. We once respected and honored what America was. People who remember what this nation was respectfuly spoke, lived and honored the foundation America was built on, will really enjoy this book. I belive what a person on TV said about God,..., we all carry money with God on it,,we say the pledge of alligence to the flag based on God, we sing a song asking for God to bless America etc. But do we really pay attention to the words we use. I'm old enough to remember 1st thing in the morning someone raised the American flag and was taught what the stripes and stars stood for . I married a US Marine who lost a brother in Viet Nam and signed up to serve theire and four other brothers who served there as well. These young men and many more male and females who remembered their nation as a nation with God always included. thank you for carring these books and many thanks to the author Jonathan Cahn

Review

“A pitch-perfect, wonderfully evocative examination of violent loss. In Frank Drum's journey away from the shores of childhood—a journey from which he can never return—we recognize the heartbreaking price of adulthood and its 'wisdoms.' I loved this book.” (Dennis Lehane, New York Times bestselling author of Live by Night and The Given Day)“Krueger’s elegy for innocence is a deeply memorable tale.” (Washington Post)“A respected mystery writer turns his attention to the biggest mystery of all: God. An award-winning author for his long-running Cork O’ Connor series, Krueger aims higher and hits harder with a standalone novel that shares much with his other work.... 'the awful grace of God,' as it manifests itself within the novel, would try the faith of the most devout believer. Yet, ultimately, the world of this novel is one of redemptive grace and mercy, as well as unidentified corpses and unexplainable tragedy. A novel that transforms narrator and reader alike.” (Kirkus Reviews (starred))“...elegiac, evocative.... a resonant tale of fury, guilt, and redemption.” (Publishers Weekly)“Once in a blue moon a book drops down on your desk that demands to be read. You pick it up and read the first page, and then the second, and you are hooked. Such a book is Ordinary Grace…This is a book that makes the reader feel better just by having been exposed to the delights of the story. It will stay with you for quite some time and you will always remember it with a smile.” (Huffington Post)“One cannot read Ordinary Grace without feeling as if it is destined to be hailed as a classic work of literature. Ordinary Grace is one of those very rare books in which one regrets reaching its end, knowing that the experience of having read it for the first time will never be repeated. Krueger, who is incapable of writing badly, arguably has given us his masterpiece.” (BookReporter.com)“My best read so far this year.” (ReviewingtheEvidence.com)“A thoughtful literary mystery that is wholly compelling and will appeal to fans of Dennis Lehane and Tom Franklin. . . Don’t take the title too literally, for Krueger has produced something that is anything but ordinary.” (BookPage)“Not often does a story feel at once fresh and familiar. But Ordinary Grace, a new novel from William Kent Krueger, is both, and it is affecting.” (Denver Post)“Ordinary Grace is engaging from the first page, a quiet novel that unfurls its sad story slowly, but eloquently, leaving its mark on your heart.” (The Missourian)

I listened to this book some months ago, so the details are not as fresh as they might be otherwise. I really loved this book, although I would not give it 5 stars. I reserve that for books that are virtually "perfect" at least from my perspective, but this book did come close. I listened to the Audible edition. The narration was great and all the characters were strong and relate-able for me except the mother/wife with all of her smoking and cursing and generally negative view of church-life and all things spiritual. Even though she had not married her husband as a minister...he became one after they married, her character didn't seem to fit well with her high level on antagonism towards her husband's profession. On the other hand Krueger's handling of the the mother's past relationship with the one-time world-famous pianist, (I forget his name) that was now her daughter's teacher/mentor was very deftly written. And then the minister was so, so, very good to everyone, a little too good at times and excessively understanding, but I felt myself warm to him anyway. Frank, our protagonist, was a great character and the way he cared so much for his sister was very moving. I really enjoyed the part where he and his reluctant brother were eavesdropping on a couples' marriage counseling session (by way of a pipe in basement, I think?) that their dad was having in his office. This was so funny and something I definitely would have done as a kid. At any rate, this book, this story, is, yes, I'll say it: "heartwarming" with a good mystery thrown in. I finished it and felt a kind of satisfaction of time well-spent. Highly recommended!

I read three books a week. I read for entertainment as I am too old to want to be bothered with learning something. Just give me a good mystery or a good legal thriller and I am a happy camper. Ordinary Grace was neither of those things. A friend recommended it to me so out of the goodness of my heart I gave it a try. Oh my! I loved it! Actually read it twice. Most books I give a three or maybe a four star but this one gets a five!

This might not be the most helpful review, as I really don't think I can articulate why I loved this book so much - I just did. Maybe due to its setting in a simpler time (early 1960's), in a small town (in Minnesota) - it almost made me wistful. While the story itself is terrific, the author did such a wonderful job telling it from a young boy's point of view, and I felt like I was right there with Frank Drum. I just so appreciated the messages in this book as well. I can tell you that it's been a long time since I was sad to see a book end, but that definitely happened with Ordinary Grace.Again, not a super helpful review, but just wanted to put my 5 stars out there. So very well done, Mr. Krueger.

Ordinary Grace is a novel that tells the story of a young boy, Frank Drum, who is coming-of-age in 1961. During the summer of '61, Frank and his younger brother, Jake, learned the hard truths about death in various forms: accidental, natural, suicide, and murder. Frank was 13 years old during this time and the story is told from his point of view. Yes, the book is written in first person (you all know how I feel about that) and it worked. The way the author, William Kent Krueger, wrote the story made you feel as if you were sitting in your living room having a conversation with Frank about his summer. The author wrote with wonderful imagery throughout the novel and the reader felt as if he was right there feeling the breeze on their face or smelling the river. The story keeps the reader engaged with Frank and Jake's antics that wound up placing them in precarious positions and involving them knee deep in the active investigations. Frank's father, Nathan, is a preacher, and throughout the novel the reader learns about what ordinary grace is from the way he handles every situation, no matter how bad, in life to how he drew strength from his faith in God.The characters in the story are well developed and have unique personalities that are relatable. From past loves to current loves to love lost, each person in the book handle each situation differently. Some shut down, others got angry, and some just crumbled under the loss and fear. From cover to cover, the reader will want to keep on this journey no matter how heart-wrenching it may be. William Kent Krueger wrote the novel so that no one can really figure out the mystery of who-dun-it until the very end.

I think this is the most powerful book I have ever read. I was touched by this book. Only out of necessity did I put it down before completion. I normally read the one-star reviews when purchasing a book, even if the %'s are very low, someone criticized the book because "knew" how it would play out as they felt the signs were obvious. I did not. Good for them, they're a genius. I think they missed the whole point. This book is to be read and enjoyed for the pain, values, and message that is spoken/unspoken in several difficult situations. Some of the most eloquent ideas about friendship, bullying, love, etc. I know not everyone has the same taste in literature, but I don't think you will be disappointed.
