This book is somewhat of an amalgamation between two other Apress books, "Beginning JSP 2: From Novice to Professional", and "Foundations of JSP Design Patterns", however there is more information in those two books in regards to their respective topics, and this book has much more detail in topics those other two books do not address.While this book is designated for intermediate to advanced developers, it could be used as an all-in-one for a novice if they have decent Java knowledge and are able to read at a relaxed pace. I found chapter quality to be consistently good. The provided examples are useful and expertly selected (not too short, not too long).Topics discussed include JSP page "anatomy", servlets, expression language, the standard tag library (JSTL), a surprisingly concise and well done chapter on JavaServer Faces (JSF), custom tag development both from a legacy and modern approach, data access, filtering, security, performance, scalability, web application design and best practices, and Struts.The majority of topics are discussed in great detail. Some of the more detailed topics such as performance and scalability have as much detail as could be expected in a non-specialized book and at the very least provide you with information on where to learn more about the topic.I have been working with JSP and JSF for 2 years and I found this book useful to fill in some knowledge gaps. I recommend it without reservation.

If you are a Java web developer you know that Java web applications can be slow and clumsy. Have you ever wondered how the sites like Amazon are written in Java and can handle millions of hits a day? Well, that book explains the technology behind those kinds of applications.The book makes very extensive use of EL (not something I am very fond of). It shows you how far you can go with JSTL by utilizing it in creating Java Server Faces. So it doesn't just tell you how amazing JSTL is because it can connect to a MySQL db from a jsp page (I mean maybe hardcore PHP programmers would find that feature cool. I don't). As far a JSF, the book shows very clearly how to do it. And you can easily try it out on your server. Still I do not believe the book does a good job providing examples of when you would really need the JSF technology. It's pretty much up to the reader's imagination. The book does a good job breaking down the use of managed beans in the context of JSF.I think the coolest chapter of the book is the chapter on filters. Let me tell you I still have hard time comprehending the entire filtering technology in JSP. It's a really advanced topic. I had no idea you could control users' requests to that extent. The book shows graphs on how requests to your web application travel through layers of filters. So it's really clear as to when you need a filter in your applications. And it's not hard to figure out how to optimize your application's performance using filters.I can really go forever, so I will stop here and let you see the rest for yourself.

TLDR, I think this is a great reference/idea book, but it's not good to bake directly from.Personally, I love this book, but you're not going to like it if you want recipes to bake from directly. This is primarily a reference book, and I peruse it regularly to get ideas or learn how classic desserts are baked. Want to know the difference between a french and swiss meringue and why you'd use one over the other? This book is great. What are the elements of a black forest cake? Also great. Want to make tiramisu from scratch? Look elsewhere.This book is really not constructed to bake from. In the actual recipe section, it usually says something like "make a sweet crust pastry," assuming you already know how to do that. Anything you make will have you either flipping to the front of the book to learn the base recipes or flipping to the back to learn techniques. Plus, I'm pretty positive all these recipes were originally in metric and converted (poorly) to imperial. You'll see measurements like "1 5/8 tablespoons" or "set the oven to 315 degrees." It's weird.Ultimately, it's a great book for a proficient baker looking to expand their skills and knowledge. But I would really not recommend trying to cook a complex dessert directly from it.

this cook book is BEAUTIFUL! The pictures are full page and colorful, diagrams are well illustrated and labelled. My only issue with it is that you need to have at least a basic understanding of baking to work with this book, otherwise you might get lost and end up with something that looks completely different than the pictures. It wasn't a big issue for me because I bake a lot, but this is definitely not beginner friendly.

This is a beautiful book containing classic pastries like Paris-Brest, Napoleons, and macarons. The architectural drawings of the pastries help you understand how they're put together, and the recipes are extremely clear and well written.Will you make pastries with an average of six layers of things that must be combined, cooked, and constructed? Maybe not. Nonetheless, you'll enjoy this coffee table book on pastries and appreciate the classic patisserie much more when you eat it.

It was a little harder than my student could handle.

I'm not a fan of sheet music review about the music. If you want to find out whether or not you enjoy it, you can always youtube it to find out. I always prefer to write a review of the sheet itself so you can figure out which edition to buy.Alfred editions are a bit hit-and-miss for me. The same feature can be sometimes great and sometimes annoying.-Big font. I love the big font for easy reading, but that makes for too many page turns and more open space than I would like (I'm a bad musician who rarely marks up his scores).-Light gray suggestive marking. I can never make up my mind whether to include those or not during playing.-Liberal use of footnotes. Sometimes a distraction, but always great to read.-Book always lays flat open. This is a plus =].-Original autograph, along with notes about how newer editors defile the original work =).

Good recipes but have to use a conversion table. None of the measuments are for the US. So difficult to work with.

Metric system and ingredients I’m unfamiliar with

There are so many various recipes to follow depending on your personal tastes for this delicious Vietnamese soup. I have tried three separate recipes and found them to be fabulous. You can easily find a Pho recipe that meets and exceeds your taste expectations

First Pho book I bought. the recipes are very simple and lets you add your ideals or take of them. Making Pho is a long process, and I did find the necessary things in my local grocery store. I purchased a second Pho cookbook thats even better than this one.

Finally I can make my own Photos. I have tried many restaurants but te cost is sometimes not in my budget . Now I can make my own with these easy recipies.

Good and very detailed pho cook without picture. Very easy to follow. I wish that it has come with pictures too.

Well the author has addressed a couple of my complaints about Kindle cookbooks. He educates the reader on how to make goodstocks which other writers don't do but tell you to buy canned broth which is expensive and offers little additional flavor.The second issue that he has addressed is that there is nutritional info for every recipe which is needed in today's day and ageof calorie conscious people.Now the main complaint he did not address and that is pics of the recipes. Like so many other Kindle cookbook writers there are no picsof dishes so we don't know what they are supposed to look like.The reviewer is an marriage, relationship and sexual coach and the author of the Kindle book entitled:Sex Education for Adults Secrets To Amazing Sex and Happily Ever After Too

It took me a while to read Clare & Tammy's book. As I was reading it my school was going through a process of refreshing our book room. We ended up going in a direction that in no way matches what Clare and Tammy propose, and honestly, it was painful to contrast the possibilities presented in It's All About the Books with the decisions made at my school, so I had to put the book aside for a while.The intentional, thoughtful vision Clare and Tammy propose for the bookroom would be an amazing resource for students and teachers. They have lots of innovative ideas about how bookrooms can support every aspect of a balanced literacy/workshop approach, realizing that teachers need access to text for all of the elements of balance literacy: yes, guided reading, but also read aloud, shared reading, book clubs, mentor text for crafts of writing and writing structures, genre studies, grade level units/topics, literary elements and devices, AND INDEPENDENT READING! Because “Having the right book at the right time is often the most important instructional move we can make to support our students." They offer an expansive vision of a “bookroom” that far exceeds what I’ve previously imagined. To have all of these resources at my fingertips would be a dream come true. The thoughtful and intentional vertical articulation of units and books described would provide an amazing depth of understanding for students, but also for teachers as they collaborate to gather and organize the best books for their purposes. I'm grateful to have this vision of the possibilities so that I can continue to advocate for a more expansive view of the bookroom and for more funding.The sections on classroom libraries gave me manageable next steps for improving my already substantial (self-funded) classroom library to make it more student-friendly and intentional. Clare & Tammy inspired me to do some much-needed weeding that revealed holes that need filling, and I can't wait to get started on that!It's All About the Books has readers—and their teachers— at its heart. Awesome! I was in the middle of preparing a presentation on classroom libraries when this came, and they echoed what I was saying to teachers and more. The supplemental resources are great, but most importantly, it's easy to read! Teachers always put aside a ton of professional texts to read over the summer and never get to them. This is one that you can read in an afternoon and then be inspired to head to school and get to work on your classroom library!!!

This book is full of inspiring ideas for teachers and librarians about designing kid-centered and kid-friendly libraries. I am newly inspired to involve my third graders in organizing and labeling our book baskets this year. i am also excited to make my classroom library look more like a book store with attractive book displays. This book is full of ideas you can use tomorrow to help your student become lifelong readers. The authors are donating all of the royalties to the nonprofit Book Love that helps gets books into teenagers hands.

A quick read, because you can jump around to the parts that are relevant to you. A terrific reminder of what matters in reading and in building a reading life for your students.

Such practical advice and tips and a quick and easy read for teachers makes for a winning combination! Tammy and Clare share such phenomenal experience and expertise to this book.... It’s one that I keep by my desk and refer back to my notes often! Has already earned a spot in my most valued resources!

Not only was this a valuable and researched base text but the author made it real and feasible. It was perfect for a book study with colleagues this year. Although I wish this book was published a couple years ago when I was trying to organize my library, I am so excited to go back in this year and apply what I have learned from Tammy and Clare’s recommendations! Time to go to the Dollar Store to buy more book baskets!!!
