I really love this book due to detailed information which it has. I highly recommend it. Photographs could have been better and more.

Caroline Williams has set the standard for all future books dealing with Cairo's Islamic heritage. Each chapter covers a specific area in medieval Cairo and starts with a list of the structures to be discussed. The buildings are ranked according to quality - a feature that tourists with limited time will find invaluable. The book reads easily and in addition to describing the architectural features of the mosques, palaces and madrasas goes on to give a brief history of each monument's builder. Detailed and accurate maps are given at the end of the book. An introductory chapter describing the features of Islamic architecture in general is included. However, if you're looking for a book of photographs this is not it.

Given the often lightweight nature of 'guidebooks', Carolone Williams' guide is a real breath of fresh air. It is not an academic tome but instead is written in a way that informs and instructs newcomers about Cairo's wonderful heritage of Islamic Architecture. The maps are useful, though occasionally confusing, and the index takes a while to get to grips with but overall it is a thoroughly useful addition to the world of guide books. I look forward to future additions - perhaps including some of Nicholas Warner's superb maps and isometric drawings.

I was waiting for this book for a long time and the final result is disappointment . To be honest I was expecting an epic saga about one of the most important period of fighting on the eastern front and instead this book is hard to read and is full of mistakes !!! I only went through 40 pages so far and I have had enough and I was wondering if I should even finish reading this book ! For example on page 32 the author is explaining how the Red army was trying to contain German penetration during during the opening stages of operation Blau and in his opinion the famous counterattack by Lizyukov 5th Tank Army was beaten of by 4th Panzer Army 24th Panzer Div. The problem is that during that particular fighting 24th Panzer was in the vicinity of Voronezh quite far away from counterattacking 5th Tank Army and it was 24 Panzer Korps 9th and 11th Panzer Divisions along with infantry of the 2nd Army that stopped that counterattack !!!! Then on next page again the author is explaining how Vatutin's Voronezh front secured the northen shoulder of the Greman penetration and they failure to complete the capture of Voronezh left the strong point from which the Soviet forces could threaten THE ENTIRE FLANK of the German advance !! Here as well Vatutin"s Voronezh front was to late to secure anything because the Germans already reached their objectives by crossing the river Don and capturing in fact the city of Voronezh and while the fighting after it's capture was hard the German never had any intention of exploiting across the Don and most of all they retained Voronezh in they hands well into 1943 and Soviets while learning the arts of war were never were able to break German held front lines during I think entire 1942 !!!! I think Mister Buttar should read a few Mr. R.Forczyk's or D. Glantz's excellent works about eastern front fighting so he can learn some real history and Osprey Publishing should not allow to publish this kind of misinformation for readers sake !!!!

This book is very thorough. It covers a lot of information in a lot of detail on the events in the Ukraine and Caucasus in World War II between November, 1942 and March, 1943.There are some points to this book, which are the reason that I gave it a good review. First, it covers the depredations that the Germans and especially the SS made against the Russian people and especially the Jews of that area. There are more specifics regarding these disgusting, tragic murders than I have ever read in any other book. The SS Totenkampf division especially is highlighted for its barbaric behavior (but then again this division was made up of ex-concentration camp guards for what do you expect.) For anyone, who is a fan of the SS (which I am not), this will open your eyes regarding these monsters. Only the SS Viking division (made up of folks from Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway) are relatively clean. Second, there are other human interest tragedies covered that haven't been covered as well in other books. One specific one is the destruction and death of the Italian Alpini division. What a tragedy.On the negative side, this author is not an easy read. I found myself laboring through much of the book, that essentially went through endless details of this unit fought this unit and took this town. The units and the names of the commanders of the units and the towns were hard to track, so I just fast read through those sections to get to the human interest stories. Also, the author can be somewhat dry resulting in a level of boring that is mentioned by other reviews.But, in my opinion, the human interest stories are worth that drudgery. Books like these are worthwhile because they highlight the tragedy of war, and just what barbaric animals the German SS and some Russian units were. This was a war of no quarter, a war of barbaric nature not seen for hundreds of years (although the US/Japan war in the Pacific rivals it).

As always, Dr Buttar does not disappoint. He has provided a very readable account of a lesser-known phase of the fighting on the Eastern Front: the immediate aftermath of the debacle at Stalingrad. The writing is even handed and deals fairly with both sides, Russian and German.My criticisms: first, most of the action actually takes place in southern Russia, not the Ukraine, hence the title is misleading; second, the maps are inadequate. In particular, a map will often show corps dispositions, while the text refers to armies or divisions, or vice-versa.

Buttar has given us a highly detailed about a phase of World War II that is not as well known as other theaters. It is detailed and complex with very confusing Russian and German names. The complex nature of the comflict does not allow for a flowing narrative that at times seems rambling. Not an easy read.

This is an excellent book! It explains many things I've noticed but didn't comprehend well in FreeBSD and Linux. The authors are very gifted at communicating, a rare gift concerning tech book and online doc authors (generally, such works so dull, they may merely serve (too often) as ambiguous reference material). The authors also give some interesting history about FreeBSD and its competitors; they give a very compelling case for the OS, which was first being developed in the era of the first moon landing and in the heart of the cold war.The authors give the steps for setting up the GUI, and many options for this (this is bedeviling for many of us--a default GUI doesn't "pop-up" after install as in commercially-supported Linux, Windows, and the Mac OS--one "builds" the GUI from a low level with desired features), and, also, the authors explain the reasons for having to set up the GUI (the OS is favored by server users who prefer a lean command-line interface).The bewildering VI editor is thoughtfully explained in some detail as well: It is a high-powered, yet, heavily keyboard-command dependent (and user-unfriendly) text editor that often is necessary for system configuration and software development. It's not user friendly (or "intuitive") because it was developed in the aforementioned cold-war era of really limited computer power and storage: Needless to say, it hasn't changed much....The book, which I haven't yet finished but am eagerly reading daily, gives many caveats (such as configuring the sync settings of monitors correctly). FreeBSD is not a good OS for a PC newbie to learn to use (at least not without a knowledgeable mentor); nevertheless, I think this is a very good intro book for gamers and high-level techies--these may wish to use FreeBSD in advanced ways such as for servers, developing firewalls, as well as for common internet/e-mail and other networking tasks (such tasks are inherently more secure and speedy on FreeBSD)--or for those well-exposed to Linux, or Apple OSX--cousin-OSes or, in the latter case, a direct descendant....

As a FreeBSD enthusiast I could say that everything is on the handbook, but I'd be a liar. Everything about FreeBSD is on FreeBSD.For all those who have heard about FreeBSD and desire to start from scratch (i.e. moving from Windows), you'll need all the help you can get: you'll have to look for the Complete FreeBSD book, the Handbook (printed or online) and will be surfing the FreeBSD man pages after the instalation... and then you'll have to use your own creativity imagination and all the internet search engines available to understand and implement this beautiful OS. But the results are excellent, the stability and security that FreeBSD offers are outstanding.FreeBSD Unleashed is certainly a book which has many updated information and shares many common points with the books mentioned above, however, all of them complement each other. I certainly recommend this book for everyone who needs a good reference book for FreeBSD and already owns the others mentioned.Good Luck!

I preorder this book, and waited by 2 months until it was published, but FreeBSD 6 really was a good choice. It is well wrote, but for my is necessary a better chapter reference, because I used it like a reference book and some time I need to look in the entire book to find a specific topic.

This book isn't for me.You would think a FreeBSD book in 2006 will tell you things like how to keep your system safe with binary updates, or walk you through a decent CUPS installation, or mention using OpenBSD's firewall tool. It's just the same-old same-old. There's little here that can't be learned from the Handbook or Greg Lehey's The Complete FreeBSD. And both are free. To be fair, there is new stuff here, like installing the official Sun JDK port for FreeBSD, or using portupgrade, but I expected a little more thoroughness and variation in choices in the areas of security, ports and printing. Also, I think a chapter about contributing to the FreeBSD ports tree would have been good to have.However, if you're new to Unix/FreeBSD, than I think you will enjoy the chatty style instead of the rather more terse style of The Handbook.

I really want to like this book, but will be looking for a more authoritative text. Despite the unprofessional looking cover, the book promises to assist the reader in mastering healthcare technology and provide an overview of the field. The first issue is the inconsistency in which the text explains concepts: either too general/watered down or too technical with no happy medium. The second issue is multiple editing errors that seem to become increasingly prevalent starting around chapter 4. The most blatant example of the editing errors are in Chapter 8 where three subsequent review answers and rationales are WRONG (8, 9 and 10). The same three questions are answered correctly in the Final Exam at the end of the book. Incidentally, the Final Exam is simply a compilation of the exact same questions found in the Final Check-Ups at the end of each chapter. A collection of unique questions and rationales should've been included at the end of the book instead of regurgitating the same questions as a means to increase the page count of the book.

Written by two different authors, who have totally different perspectives on rapid classifications. The runs written by the father are over classified (rapids listed as Class IV are probably Class III). The runs written by the son are sometimes slightly under classified (rapids listed as Class IV might be IV+). This means when you read a description and it lists a rapid as Class IV you have no idea what to expect. This book is extremely outdated and there are better options available.

This book is a fantastic resource with almost everything you want or need to know about the areas covered. My only criticism would be that the maps could stand more detail, and be smaller scale. Regardless, it clearly identifies the access locations for rivers, all the major rapids, and how to go through or get around them. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in paddling in the western Carolina's.

this book is alittle out dated from 1996. I'm not sure who this book was written for, it's written to teach airbrush painting it's more for those who have been at it for a couple of years.

This was a very descriptive book. It had good techniques and beautiful illustrations. I would recomend it to anyone with any degree of experience

I use this with my high school students. I teach airbrush I and II and this book is a great resource for my students to find and practice techniques. Thank you and I look forward to doing business with you again.
