I know the Dummies series tries to be lighthearted and humorous, but this book is filled with inane attempts to be funny and is in need of an editor. I'm sure the author knows the topic, but the stylistic mistakes are a distraction. If a good editor could review this book and the out-of-place humor removed, this might be a good introduction to the topic. As it stands, I'm going to be reading the Sam's Teach Yourself guide instead and give this copy away.Look at the way Chapter Two begins:"Grasping XSLT is kind of like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Even my 7-year-old knows that the best way to approach a puzzle is to first connection all the pieces of the output border and then work your way inside, eventually filling in all the missing pieces."This paragraph is completely unnecessary. Wagner could have just started the chapter by explaining that understanding XSLT begins with understanding the larger concepts, then working your way toward the mechanics. When I read technical information, even introductory technical information, I do not need to be distracted by references to the author's personal life, his children, or his shopping habits. Just give me the information in a way I can understand it.I own one other Dummies book on a scientific topic and it doesn't include the same lame attempts at humor. If this is an example of the way most of the series works, I'm going to avoid the Dummies books in favor of the Complete Idiot's Guides.

With a basic knowledge in XML I needed to modify an email generated by third party software as part of a build system. We needed to drastically reduce the size of the emails. Prior to getting this book, I had no experience with XSLT. Within two days I was able to modify one of the xsl files provided by the third party, create a new xsl file to add some of the excised information back into the email, and achieve our objective of reducing the impact of the emails on our inboxes.The book takes the reader into XSLT in an organized manner, adding more complexity with each chapter. There are numerous examples that build upon previous examples.The only unfortunate thing about this situation, is that I was able to resolve the email problem so quickly that I now have no further work motivation for continuing studying XSLT. But it will probably come up again.I gave this book a 4 star review based on the Kindle edition, otherwise, it would be 5 stars. Occasionally, when encountering a figure in the text, the figure hides text behind it. To read that text, I had to play with whether I was in single or multi-column mode and even showing or hiding the bookmark window on the right side. These changes would show the hidden text but usually hide other text. This was on the 'Kindle for Mac' application.

I have (and I will) read lots more books dealing with XSLT transformations for XML content, but there is something about the Dummies series that I find so helpful and/or reassuring. I don't like having my time wasted, but when they're done right Dummies books maintain a tone and scope that tells me just enough about everything I need to know in a topic. I read them and then I go on to O'Reillys (or whatever) with what feels like a pretty solid introductory knowledge. When they're good, I love the Dummies. I've been looking forward to this one for about a year and a half, and it has turned out to be just what I'd have hoped.

Nicely paced introductory book.

Presentation style = “scattered”I personally can’t recommend this book.I’ve been in computer software and embedded-systems programming for years.And I have some pretty set opinions of training material styles.Information should be presented in a linear fashion, analogous to walking up stairs.Initiating the process with a starting position that the vast majority of one’s students can be comfortable at.Then through easy to understand explanations, let the student step on step 1 and get comfortable there.Then lead the student to step 2 and allow them to get comfortable there…..etc up the stair-way of learning.I found the presentation style of the book scattered.It started out kind of ok, but I found it unnecessarily wordy and caught myself skipping over sentences to get to useful information.One xslt example would be ultra-simple, and the next one example would be completely bloated to totally over-kill.I finally gave up and discovered LEARNING XSLT – O’Reilly in kindle.In 2 hours, I’m 10% through LEARNING XSLT and really getting a lot of needed information from it!

The book is fine; the tech support on the book's XSLT editor is awful. The tool was compiled against an ancient (2002) Java VM, and doesn't work on any current PC. The tech support staff have ignored the problem for three weeks, so I'll find another editor

This book is OK for users wanting to get into XSLT but it has some shortcomings. The tool that they recommend working with is no longer supported and doesn't work on Windows 7 PCs. Also its its not available on OSX, in fact the whole book is very windows orientated. If you can find an XSLT tool to work with the information is still valid and pretty easy to follow.

I really liked how did the authors structure the book, the language used was simple and easy to understand, I highly recommend this book for every customer experience professional ... it is a must to read book.One con I spotted during reading was the inability to link some explained concepts directly to the customer experience.The book was very simple and as a reader, I really enjoyed reading it :) ... simple is better

Having worked with Bruce Loeffler over the years, I first noted that the book reads like Bruce speaks: understandably, to the point, and from the heart. I'm aware of how the authors feel about customer loyalty and you can see that important aspect of successful businesses virtually on every page. Easily understood, "The Experience" is enhanced by the use of "Quotient Questions" and "Actionables" throughout, challenging readers to be active readers, who can and will be able to give a value added to their company/business. Should be an automatic add-on to any business library.

Zig Ziglar once said "you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want " ... simple saying but how to accomplish it? The Experience simply teaches you how to accomplish what Zig promoted! Absolutely a great resource. This book has come in handy a lot for my nursing assignment in California. Most of patients are primary Spanish speakers, and this books really facilitates communication. The reason for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is this: it is a 'proper' Spanish interpretation, not so much Spanish as it is used today. Fortunately, I have a wealth of coworkers willing to go through the book and add notes in for me. For instance: don't say 'codo' (elbow) to a Mexican person. It's their way of calling someone a tight-@$$. Tips like that would have been useful.

"The One Page Business Plan" by Jim Horan is a very useful, practical guide for anyone who is or who wants to be in business. I wish something like this had been around 50 years ago when I started my first business. Since then, I've written many business plans, both for myself, and for others. This little book takes you through the basics in a clear, logical way. It is full of examples and stresses clear writing. It is not an in-depth study of all the machinations of doing demographic studies and the like, but it is just fine as an overall set of processes and thoughts on writing a clear, concise business plan.

The one page business plan is a classic. I have used this for several years. I purchased the book because we have a new person entering the firm and the book will be very helpful to that person in understanding the one page business plan system. A significant value of the one page business pl;an is getting down in the plan very short statements. This causes one to refine one's thinking.

I borrowed this book from library. At first it seemed like a children books with drawings. Ni read other books I borrowed and got to this book. It is very simple and plain to get you started but it doesn't provide information for other statements you need to generate for your successful business. I decided to add this book to my library. It is a useful simple book to refer to or update your business plan.

We've just finished a semester using this book with undergrads (at Marquette), in conjunction with Bulger's The Enlightened Entrepreneur. Both are full of questions to answer; this one also has a nice protocol for going from answers to the plan. In one page, obviously you only set a broad direction, but that's vital. I added sections on Customers, Competitors, Capabilities, Channels, Commitments, and Capital to get closer to a full plan. Overall, it worked extremely well, and business clients who've used it also found it works well.
