Michael was much more than an occasional visitor to the Dark Continent. He spent a period of time in apartheid South Africa, French West Africa and Portuguese occupied Mozambique. The North African and Middle East ports were also well known to him. He empathised well with the native peoples of Africa. Michael was perhaps one of the last to experience Africa as the novelist James Conrad would remember it. Following a maritime mishap the author spent a considerable time in the interior of the Belgian Congo. This was a period of internal conflict the brutality of which has few to equal it.

Though the message delivered is not for the faint of heart, accounts of terrorist butchery of innocent peoples, a stand down order given to the patriotic soldiers, and the betrayal of western governments will put you back in your chair with contemplation of your own future. Through Kissinger's pressure put on South Africa to isolates Rhodesia, the nation builders, no different from the stock that built the United States or Australia, where put out to pasture and forced to watch their nation crumble under the authoritative and revengeful black rule. Mike's book shows how the capitalist west and Communist Nations worked hand in hand to destroy sovereign European rule, which brought prosperity to every region of Africa they settled, and to replace it with chaotic exploitation. Apart from all of that the thing that angered me the most is that this man cheapens the deaths of my friends and brothers to push his ridiculous ultra right wing fallacies. He has nothing to do with Rhodesia and I doubt he ever visited the place. He seems to think he has some claim of kinship with us because his father was IRA. We may have rebelled against Britain but many of us will support Britain any day over any other country or group.
Not value for money..
I lived 5 years in Rhodesia with my parents and went to school there. The author is factually correct. The negative reviews are probably from communists or socialists who refuse to acknowledge the unholy mess brought upon Africans by external political influence. Rhodesia, Angola where I was born, Mozambique, South West Africa, all were mere pawns in wider global geopolitics... Africa is too resource rich to be allowed to prosper on its own...
